Day 2: TEL AVIV – SEA OF GALILEE

Location : Sea of Galilee

Upon arrival in Tel Aviv, we are greeted by our English-speaking tour guide and assisted by our motor coach. We drive to the Sea of Galilee area, where we check into our hotel, and enjoy dinner and a well-deserved night of rest. Overnight in the Sea of Galilee area. (D)

Day 3: NAZARETH – CANA

Location : Nazareth, Israel

From the airport, we drive to Nazareth. We visit Mary’s Grotto, the Church of the Annunciation, where we celebrate Mass, and St. Joseph Church. Then continue to Cana, the site of the first miracle, where couples may choose to renew their wedding vows. Dinner tonight is at Magdalena Restaurant, one of the best in the country. Overnight in the Sea of Galilee area. (B. L. Special dinner )

Day 4: MT. TABOR – CAESAREA PHILIPPI – JORDAN RIVER

Location : Mount Tabor

This morning, we drive to Mt. Tabor to visit the Church of Transfiguration and celebrate Mass. Then we proceed to Banias, also known as Caesarea Philippi, the source of the River Jordan. From here, we drive to the Golan Heights, where we can see Lebanon, Syria, and Jordan. Today we meet members of the ancient Druze community for lunch. Dinner and overnight in the Sea of Galilee area. Day 5: MINISTRY IN GALILEE – BETHLEHEM AND BOAT RIDE

Location : Sea of Galilee

This morning, we travel to Tiberias. Take a boat ride as the apostles once did across the Sea of Galilee and then proceed to Capernaum, referred to in the Bible as “Jesus’ town” and the birthplace of his ministry. Here we stand in the remains of the second-century synagogue in which Jesus must have ministered and where he performed many miracles. It’s in Capernaum where Peter’s mother-in-law lived and was cured. Continue to the Mount of Beatitudes, where Jesus delivered the Sermon on the Mount. We enjoy a lunch of St. Peter’s Fish and see Tabgha, the place of Multiplication of Fishes and Loaves, and the Church of Peter’s Primacy, where we celebrate Mass. Continue to Bethlehem with a stop en route at the Baptismal site on the River Jordan. Dinner and overnight in Bethlehem. (B.L.D.)

Day 6: EIN KAREM - BETHLEHEM - SHARING THE BREAD

Location : Ein Karem, Jerusalem, Israel

We depart for Ein Karem this morning to see the birthplace of John the Baptist and celebrate Mass at the Church of the Visitation. Later we visit Bethlehem, including the Church of the Nativity and Shepherds’ Field. Next, we visit a Christian cooperative store owned by the Kando family that helps support dozens of local families. We stop to pray for peace at the Separation Wall, just as Pope Francis did during his historic visit to the Holy Land. This evening we are welcomed into the homes of Christian families for a home-cooked meal, Sharing the Bread. Overnight in Bethlehem. (B. Special dinner)

Day 7: MT. OF OLIVES – MT. ZION

Location : Mt of Olives, Jerusalem

Today, we explore Ascension Chapel and visit the Church of Pater Noster, where Jesus taught the Lord’s Prayer. Marvel at the panoramic view from the Mt. of Olives – seeing the eternal golden city. We walk along Palm Sunday Road, stopping at Dominus Flevit, where Jesus wept over the city. Continue along the Jewish cemetery with a view over the Eastern Gate. Have some quiet time in the Garden of Gethsemane and the Garden of Betrayal. Since the fourth century, tradition has placed the betrayal of Judas here. Walk over to the Basilica of Agony, where we celebrate Mass. Following lunch, visit Caiaphas Palace and the Church of St. Peter in Gallicantu. Our final stop of the day is the Upper Room. Overnight in Jerusalem. (B.D.

Day 8: HOLY CITY OF JERUSALEM

Location : Via Dolorosa, Jerusalem

We start the day early by praying the Stations of the Cross along the Way of the Cross (Via Dolorosa). We are blessed to be able to celebrate Mass this morning at the Church of the Holy Sepulchre, the site where Jesus was crucified and buried. We visit the Wailing Wall and the Church of St. Anne in the afternoon. Tonight we enjoy a restaurant dinner in Jerusalem. Over-night in Jerusalem. (B. Special dinner.)

Day 9: ALLENBY BRIDGE – AMMAN

Location : Amman, Jordan

This morning, we check out of our hotel in Jerusalem and make our way to the Allenby Bridge, where we cross from Israel into Jordan. After lunch, we visit a local mosaic artist colony and a winery. Mass will be celebrated at the hotel. Overnight at the Dead Sea. (B.L.D.)

Day 10: DEAD SEA – MADABA – MT. NEBO – JORDAN RIVER – PETRA

Location : Jordan River

This morning, we have some time at the Dead Sea before visiting Mt. Nebo, where Prophet Moses gazed at the Promised Land before he died, which is alleged to be his burial place. We celebrate Mass at Mt Nebo. As we travel west, we view the Plains of Moab to the north, the area where the tribes of Israel camped before crossing the Jordan River and view Bethany beyond. We visit the Baptismal site on the River Jordan, the same place where Jesus was baptized. Then we visit the town of Madaba, where we find the famous mosaic 6th-century map of Palestine in St. George’s Church. In the afternoon, we drive to Petra for dinner and overnight (B.D.)

Day 11: PETRA – WADI RUM – OVERNIGHT IN THE DESERT

Location : Wadi Rum Village, Jordan

This morning, we enjoy a sightseeing tour of magnificent Petra, one of the wonders of the world. A visit to this ancient Nabatean City, carved out of red rose rock, includes the Treasury, Monastery, and Theatre. Departing Petra, we travel south on the King’s Highway. Continue to Wadi Rum where we sleep in tents and gaze at the stars shining very bright in the desert sky. We celebrate Mass in Wadi Rum. Overnight in the desert. (B.D.)

Day 12: WADI RUM – AQABA – NUWEIBA

Location : Aqaba, Jordan

This morning, we enjoy a visit to Wadi Rum before departing by motor coach to Aqaba, where we have a brief stop to see what is considered the oldest church in the world. Enjoy dinner in Aqaba and then cross from Aqaba into Egypt where we have an overnight. Mass will be celebrated. Over-night in Nuweiba. (B.L.D)

Day 13: NUWEIBA – DAHAB

Location : Dahab, Egypt

After breakfast, we admire the seaside and check out by noon to drive to the resort town of Dahab. We arrive in Dahab and enjoy a walk on the Promenade and a restaurant lunch. Then return to our hotel for dinner and overnight. Mass will be celebrated. (B.L.D.)

Day 14: MT SINAI – ST. CATHERINE MONASTERY – CAIRO

Location : Mount Sinai, Saint Catherine, Egypt

For those who wish to climb Mt. Sinai, we wake up around midnight and travel to Moses Mountain, where a Bedouin guide accompanies us to climb up the sacred mountain where Moses received the Ten Commandments. From the summit of the mountain, we can see the sunrise. Then descend and return to our hotel for breakfast and check out. Next, we visit St. Catherine Monastery, considered one of the most famous monasteries in the world. The monastery was dedicated to one of Alexander’s rulers, St. Catherine, who was tortured to death for the sake of her new faith. Afterward, we depart for Cairo. Then we settle into our hotel for dinner and a well-deserved night of rest. Mass will be celebrated. Overnight in Cairo. (B.D.)

Day 15: ANCIENT CAIRO – DINNER CRUISE ON THE NILE

Location : Cairo, Egypt

Today we travel back to ancient Egypt with a full day of touring the wonders of the ancient world, some of which date back to 1000+ years before Abraham. We explore Old Cairo to visit the Hanging Church – the most famous Coptic church in Cairo – named so, as the Nile River built it over the Roman Gate of Babylon. During a walking tour of the old city, our guide will point out the route taken by Abraham, Joseph, Moses, and the family of Jesus – an inspiring thought. We stop at the Coptic Museum to better understand Christianity in Egypt and the Coptic Cathedral, where we see the relics of St. Mark. We celebrate Mass and have time to shop in the local Bazaar, which dates back to the 14th century. In the evening, we take a dinner cruise on the Nile river. Overnight in Cairo. (B.L.Special dinner)

Day 16: ANCIENT CAIRO – LIGHT AND SOUND SHOW

Location : Giza, El Omraniya, Egypt

Following breakfast, another fascinating day awaits us as we visit the Egyptian Museum and the Great Pyramids of Giza, consisting of 3 million tons of granite and 150 meters high. Nearby is the Sphinx, carved almost entirely from one block of limestone. It remains a charismatic figure, standing 22 meters high and 50 meters long, representing a man with the body of a lion. Mass will be celebrated. We return to the Pyramids tonight to see the fascinating Light and Sound Show. Dinner and overnight in Cairo. (B.L.D.)
