Day 2: See the City Destroyed and Completely Rebuilt Warsaw

Location : Warsaw, Poland

Welcome to Poland. We are greeted by our Polish English Speaking guide and taken to the Old Town of Warsaw, where we have time to stretch our legs and get lunch on our own. Although the Warsaw Old Town might not look like it, it was rebuilt in the post-war period. The arduous efforts of the locals in recreating their historic center, just as it was in the Middle Ages, has been called the most ambitious reconstruction project in history. As you wander between the redbrick churches and Masovian tenements, it's easy to see why. Following lunch, we drive along the impressive streets of Warsaw, mostly rebuilt after WWII, ending at Lazienki Park with its gardens, palaces, and Chopin Monument. We celebrate Mass and check into the hotel. Dinner is at the hotel, with an overnight stay in Warsaw. (D)

Day 3: Polish Heroes

Location : Częstochowa, Poland

After breakfast, we visit the Museum dedicated to Fr. Jerzy Popieluszko and the Museum of Warsaw Rising, chronicling the events of the Warsaw Uprising that began on August 1, 1944. Using interactive displays featuring the weapons of the uprising, love letters, actual footage, and many other artifacts, relive one of the most harrowing events in Polish history. We depart Warsaw driving to the Niepokalanow Sanctuary and the Franciscan Monastery linked with St. Maximilian Maria Raymond Kolbe – a martyr from the death camp in Auschwitz. Mass will be celebrated. We arrive in Czestochowa and check into our hotel. (B, D)

Day 4: The Madonna of CZĘSTOCHOWA

Location : Zakopane, Poland

After breakfast and check-out from the hotel, we visit the Jasna Gora Monastery, where we see the Treasury, the Knight’s Hall, the Refectory, the Basilica of the Holy Cross, and the Nativity of the Virgin Mary. The highlight of our visit will be a viewing of the famous icon of the Black Madonna, to which miraculous powers are attributed. We celebrate Mass at one of the chapels. Free time for lunch. This afternoon we drive to the mountain area of Zakopane for dinner and overnight in Zakopane. (B, D)

Day 5: St. John Paul's Favorite Hiking Area

Location : Zakopane, Poland

Following breakfast, we visit the Sanctuary of the Holy Virgin of Fatima, a chapel constructed between 1987 and 1992 in gratitude for Pope John Paul II’s survival from an assassination attempt. Here we will celebrate Mass. We continue our tour with a cable car ride to Gubalowka for a stunning view of the Tatra Mountains and take a hike in the same mountains where St. John Paul used to go hiking as a young seminarian. Lunch will be at a local restaurant. We have time to explore Zakopane on our own before dinner. (B, L, D)

Day 6: The Underground City of Salt

Location : Wieliczka, Poland

After breakfast at the hotel, we drive to Wieliczka, the underground city of salt. We visit Europe’s oldest salt mine, which UNESCO has listed as a World Heritage Site. The mines are a unique place where many generations of Polish miners have created a world of underground chambers and decorated chapels carved out of salt, including the famous Chapel of St. Kinga. We celebrate Mass at St. John Paul II Chapel before departing to Krakow. Overnight in Krakow. (B, D)

Day 7: Krakow

Location : Kraków, Poland

In the morning, we visit Wawel Hill to see Wawel Royal Castle (exterior view) and visit the Wawel Cathedral, which is one of the most beautiful Renaissance residences in central Europe. Continue to Krakow’s Old Town to see the main Market Square, St. Mary’s Church, Cloth Hall, and City Hall Tower. Afternoon and dinner are at leisure to explore on your own. Check out Rynek Underground Museum (tickets must be purchased online in advance) for a unique attraction depicting the city's history. Dinner is on our own. Overnight Krakow. (B)

Day 8: St. John Paul II Feast Day- Wadowice - Kalwaria Zebrzydowska-Krakow

Location : Wadowice, Poland

Following our buffet breakfast, drive to Wadowice, the hometown of Pope St. John Paul II and his childhood home, which is now a museum. We visit the Church of the Presentation of the Virgin Mary where he was baptized and where we will celebrate Mass and join in the special celebration at the Church as today is the Feast Day of St. John Paul II. We visit the Museum dedicated to the beloved Saints' life and enjoy a taste of his favorite dessert before driving to visit Kalwaria Zebrzydowska, which was a popular pilgrimage place for Pope St. John Paul II when he was a young man. On the slope of the hill and the valley, is an architectural “Way of the
Cross” made up of 40 chapels set on the surrounding hills. Lunch is on our own. Dinner and overnight in Krakow. (B, D)

Day 9: Auschwitz- Krakow: Meet the locals

Location : Kraków, Poland

This morning, we visit Auschwitz, a Nazi concentration camp where St. Teresa Benedicta (Edith Stein) faced martyrdom and St. Maximilian Kolbe died in the Death Block from starvation after volunteering his life for that of a fellow prisoner. We celebrate Mass at Berkanau Chapel. The afternoon is at leisure to explore Krakow on your own, perhaps visit the PRL Museum of Communism depicting the history of communism in Poland. Tonight we visit a local pub for a chance to meet some of the locals who share with us what living in Poland is like. Dinner and drinks at the pub are not included. (B.)

Day 10: Have No Fear Center - Divine Mercy- Krakow

Location : Łagiewniki, Kraków, Poland

This morning, we depart for Lagiewniki, the capital of the Divine Mercy. We start with a visit to the St. John Paul II Have No Fear Center, which features the Chapel of Relics and contains pictures of various events during the pontificate of Pope John Paul II. We continue to the Divine Mercy Shrine, see St. Faustina’s convent chapel and her tomb, and enjoy a tour led by one of the sisters. Here, the message of the Divine Mercy originated, which Christ himself wished to pass on to our generation through the mediation of St. Faustina. The Sanctuary houses the grace-working image of the Merciful Jesus and the relics of St. Faustina. We visit the newly
constructed Shrine of Divinity dedicated by Pope St. John Paul II on his last visit to Poland in 2002. We celebrate Mass at the Shrine. We have free time for lunch and shopping before returning to Krakow. The afternoon is at our leisure for shopping in the city center. We have our farewell dinner with a folklore show at a local restaurant tonight. Overnight Krakow. (B, Special dinner)
