Day 1: Depart USA

Location : USA

Depart on a flight from Denver to Mexico City. Upon arrival you are greeted by your tour escort and transferred to the hotel. Mass will be celebrated. Dinner at the hotel, in Zona Rosa, an active area filled with shops, markets and restaurants. Overnight Mexico City. (D)

Day 2: Mexico City

Location : Mexico City, Mexico

We start the day with Holy Mass at the Shrine of Our Lady of Guadalupe at San Jose Chapel, Patroness of the Americas. We then visit the Plaza of Three Cultures, baptismal site of St. Juan Diego. After lunch, in a typical Mexican restaurant, we visit the Pyramids of the Sun and the Moon. Overnight Mexico City. Dinner on your own. (B. L.)

Day 3: MEXICO CITY

Location : Mexico City, Mexico

Today we have a full day city tour of Mexico City. We visit the Metropolitan Cathedral, where St. Juan Diego’s Bishop Juan Zumarraga is buried, and where we have a Mass. Our next stop is Zocalo Square, the main square from the time of the Aztec. We’ll see the Church of Santo Domingo, which contains two shrines; Our Lady of Rosary and Our Lady of Cavadonga. Visit the ruins of the Aztec Temple of human sacrifice that was replaced by the Cathedral. Visit the National Palace seat of the Mexican Government. (Outside visit only) Dinner is at a local restaurant. Overnight Mexico City. (B. Special dinner)

Day 4: CUERNAVACA – TAXCO

Location : Taxco, Guerrero, Mexico

We start with a visit to Cuernavaca, “City of Eternal Spring”, to see the Borda Gardens (in September gardens are closed) and Palace of Cortes (inside visit), housing murals by Diego Rivera, the famous Mexican artist. We continue on to Taxco. There is no word for Taxco, only a feeling, and one must go there to experience the sensations brought about only by a visit to this “City in the Clouds”. We have time to bargain for silver treasures and see the silver mines. A late afternoon visit to the Church of San Prisca for Mass allows time to shop and explore the market and many artisan shops. Day 5: CHOLULA – PUEBLA

Location : Puebla, Mexico

Morning buffet breakfast, and then depart for Puebla, the City of the Angels and Churches. The ride today takes us through the famous Cortes Pass. We arrive in Cholula, a town very rich in Mexican history. Cholula is where the world famous “Cinco de Mayo” (May 5th) battle occurred. Cholula also claims to have a Chapel for every day of the year! Here we see what’s reputed to be the largest pyramid in the world. On top of the pyramid lies the Church of Our Lady of Good Remedy, (Celebration of Mass TBD). Later, we visit the Church of Tonantzintla where the most beautiful example of Indo-Christian decoration can be admired. Continue to Puebla, the fourth largest city in México and a great example of Spanish colonial architecture. We stop for lunch at an old Spanish house for a delicious buffet (optional, at your expense) and some great local music. The Puebla region is famous for its beautiful Churches and its hand painted “Talavera” tiles. We check into our hotel. (B.D.)

Day 6: PUEBLA

Location : Puebla, Mexico

We visit the unforgettable Chapel of the Rosary where we celebrate Mass (TBC). We then visit the Cathedral, Santo Domingo Church, the Santa Monica religious museum, and Church of St. Francis to see the incorrupt body of Blessed Sabastian. In the afternoon, we have ample time to shop in the open-air market and bargain for souvenirs and silver. Dinner is at leisure. Overnight Puebla. (B.)

Day 7: TLAXCALA CITY – OCOTLÁN – QUERÉTARO CITY

Location : Ocotlán, Jalisco, Mexico

After breakfast we travel to Tlaxcala City for a visit to the Monastery of San Francisco, one of the first Catholic buildings in Mexico. This is known as the Lourdes of Mexico because of its miraculous statue and spring water. Then depart for Ocotlan, where we have Mass at the Shrine of Our Lady of Ocotlan. This is where a statue of Our Lady appeared in a burning tree and where she designated a healing well. Dinner is at the hotel. Overnight Queretaro City. (B.D)

Day 8: SAN MIGUEL De ALLENDE

Location : San Miguel de Allende, Guanajuato, Mexico

After breakfast we visit Queretaro, and see the Templo del Cruz Aqueduct. We concelebrate Mass at a local church. Travel to San Miguel De Allende where we visit the Allende Institute of Art and Culture. Visit the Royal Convent of the Conception and the Church of San Miguel Archangel, followed by a local market for handcrafts. Overnight in San Miguel De Allende. (B.D)

Day 9: GUANAJUATO

Location : Guanajuato, Mexico

After breakfast we celebrate Holy Mass at Ntra. Sra. De la Paz Basilica followed by a visit to Universidad. Discover its subterranean streets and alleys, its old buildings filled with history, and its small typical squares which serve as a stage during Cervantino Festival only in October. See the open Municipal market, the University, and the Main Square. Overnight in Guanajuato. (B.D)

Day 10: CUBILETE – LEON – GUADALAJARA

Location : Leon, Guanajuato, Mexico

After breakfast we see the majestic Teatro Juares, with its mix of Roman and oriental architectural styles, and climb the Monumento Al Pipila. We continue to Cerro del Cubilete Santuario de Cristo Rey where we celebrate Mass followed by a visit to Templo Expiatorio in Leon. Time will be planned for adoration, confession and meditation (3 hours). Continue on to Guadalajara for dinner and overnight. (B.D)

Day 11: SAHUAYO – GUADALAJARA

Location : Guadalajara, Jalisco, Mexico

Today, our motorcoach takes us to Sahuayo, Michoacan. We will devote our visit today to Saint Jose Sanchez del Rio, canonized in October of 2016 and the youngest of the Cristero martyrs. We will stop at the church of Saint James Apostle, where Saint Joselito was held prisoner when government troops turned the church into military barracks. Here repose his principal relics and we will celebrate Mass at his shrine. In Guadalajara, we visit the Cathedral with the ossuary consisting of a glass cabinet that exhibits the bones of 23 of the martyred saints of the Cristero Revolution, followed by a visit of the city center with its historical buildings and government palaces, as well as the elegant Degollado Theater. Overnight in Guadalajara. Dinner at a local restaurant with Mariachi music and a show. (B. Farewell Dinner)
